Something Big is Coming!

Troy Gilmore | Published on 2/21/2022

Have you ever felt like something big was going to happen? 2022 seems like one of those years. The Springfield Bicycle Club has a multitude of activities and events going on this year. Be sure to check out our calendar under the 2022 Calendar of Events   on the website.
We need your help to pull off a successful year. When events open for registration, register. When your membership is up for renewal, renew. When you see others on bikes who are not members, encourage them to join. We also will need volunteers to help with all our cycling events, socializers and community outreach this year. More details about those events will be made later. But, in the meantime, as you are reading this and would like to help email me at president@spfldcycling.org and I’ll add you to our list of volunteers.

This year we celebrate the big 5-0 for the Club. The Springfield Bicycle Club was incorporated by the Secretary of State/State of Illinois on May 11, 1972. Although some documents have the Club’s origins dating back to 1970, we’ll be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the SBC in 2022. (Due to COVID restrictions over the past couple of years seemed like a celebration in 2022 is appropriate.) We are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Capital City Century this year. Be on the lookout for special events and activities related to these anniversaries, including a new 50th anniversary commemorative Pactimo jersey.

I also want you to consider a leadership role in the Club. We are continually looking for ride leaders and in March will host a ride leader training for new ride leaders and current leaders who need some encouragement. New this year is a group of board members who will be looking to mentor others to encourage leadership on the SBC Board. There are currently a couple of vacant positions on the board. If you’d like more information about board membership, please let me know and I’ll direct you to the committee.

I look forward to seeing you on the road or trail soon.
