2024 Springfield Bicycle Club Programs

2024 will be a busy year for the SBC! Here's a summary of what the club will be offering this year. All club members are encouraged to participate, and if you have some time to volunteer, all the better!

Capital City Connection

STARTING IN MAY -- RUNS THROUGH SEPTEMBER

This new program, open to both members and non-members at no cost, will kick off in early May with the goal of helping cyclists learn more about cycling and find a group to ride with.

WE NEED RIDE LEADER VOLUNTEERS!!! Please consider serving as a Ride Leader for this program.  Learn about the requirements for Ride Leader and general information about the program at the link below.

Sangamon Cycling Series

MAY - AUGUST

The popular series, targeted toward all levels of cyclists, enters its fourth year. This program is a series of four rides starting from area parks, with different distance options. SAG support is provided and a rest stop will be set up for each ride.  There is a cost to participate.

Sangamon Gravel Series

FIRST RIDE - MAY 25

Board member Casey Primm will be orchestrating this new series targeted at the growing population of gravel riders in the club. Plans are for three “club rides” and several area gravel rides, culminating in a true gravel race at season’s end. Stay tuned for announcements about these rides.

Springfield Kids' Triathlon

SATURDAY, JULY 13 | NELSON CENTER - LINCOLN PARK

New for 2024, the SBC is directing the 11th annual Springfield Kids' Triathlon. This event was formerly directed by the Springfield Triathlon Club. Race Directors Jeanny and Dave Huber are coordinating this fun event for kids ages 5-13. Volunteers will be needed at packet pickup on the Friday before the event, as well as on Saturday morning.

Capital City Century

SEPTEMBER 14, 2024

The 52nd CCC returns to the Sherman Athletic Club under the directorship of Lori Dale. New for 2024 is chip timing by It’s Race Time, an event jersey and a different rest stop location (tentatively Elkhart) with the goal of avoiding the roads that were rocked late in the season. Registration will open March 1.
