Event 1 - Sangamon Cycling Series
Ride Day Information

The first ride of the 2023 Sangamon Cycling Series is Saturday, May 13 and we can't wait to see you there! Here's some info that we think you'll find helpful.

Routes
There are four distances to choose from --- 19 miles, 35 miles, 64 miles and 75 miles. As the season progresses, we plan to offer a 100-mile option.  You can access GPS files at the link below. There are also PDF maps with turn-by-turn directions that you may download and print.

Caution!
Bock Road Bridge. There is an old wooden bridge on Bock Road (approximately mile 10 on the 35-, 64- and 75- mile routes) that has some deep cracks in the surface. Some of the cracks are wide enough to catch a wheel. Please use extreme caution on this bridge, dismounting and walking if possible.

Turnaround on Elkhart Hill. If you riding the 35-, 64- or 75- mile route, you will ride to the top of Elkhart Hll and then turnaround. You may wish to pull off into the cemetery at the top of the hill and turn around, rather than stop in the middle of the road and turn around.

Ride Leaders
The following individuals have offered to serve as Ride Leaders.
19 Mile - John Stearns - 10-13 mph
35 Mile - Anne Schroll - 10-13 mph
64 Miles - Ron Summer and Nathan Schorfheide - 15-16 mph
75 Miles - Casey Primm - 16 mph

Route Markings
We are hoping to get the 19- and the 35-mile routes marked with pavement arrows. If it rains on Friday, this may or may not happen (arrows won't stick to the wet pavement). Fingers crossed for dry weather!

Location
The first event will be held at Sherman Village Park, at the east pavilion. The address is:

Sherman Village Park
1200 Rail Fence Drive
Sherman, IL 62684

Parking
Parking may be limited. There is overflow parking across the street.

Day of Ride
7-8 AM
Please look for the Springfield Bicycle Club table set up at the pavilion and check in, indicating what distance you are planning to ride that day. You're welcome to change the distance if you'd like to try a shorter or longer route, we just need a rough idea to help our SAG driver.

8:00 AM
The ride starts. All routes will cross South Sherman Blvd/55 and take riders to the new Sherman/Williamsville Bike Trail. A rest stop with water, Gatorade and various snacks/bars will be set up at the Samuel H. Jones Park in Williamsville, and all routes will stop by this at least once, depending on the distance, before returning to the park in Sherman.

T-Shirts
If you registered prior to May 1, 11:59 PM, your registration includes a t-shirt. The order for t-shirts has been placed and we've got our fingers crossed that we'll have the shirts back in time to distribute them at the first event. As of Wednesday, the shirts are still in production.

Again, thank you for signing up for the 2023 Sangamon Cycling Series! We look forward to seeing you at the first event!
